Analytics

Analytics shows recorded activity on your website. Use it to see which pages receive attention and, if your site has Search, what people try to find. These observations can help you decide which information to review with the person responsible for updating your website.

Choose what you want to understand

Open Analytics in the Admin

Choose Analytics in the Admin area navigation to open Overview. Analytics appears when it is enabled for your site and your configured access allows it. If you need access, ask the person who manages your Admin users. Access to Analytics does not necessarily include access to the content behind a result.

The guides include interactive examples with invented data. Use your own Admin to review your website's activity.

Understand what is recorded

These analytics record anonymous site activity: views of all public pages, including pages managed outside the CMS, and, when Search is enabled, completed searches and result selections. Admin previews do not contribute recorded traffic. Search records the words people type with consistent formatting; this does not remove personal information someone types into a search. A page's path can also contain information; query strings and fragments are not recorded.

The current capability does not identify individual visitors, build visitor profiles, record browsing sessions or replay browsing activity. It does not collect where visitors came from, referrer details, or device and browser details as background analytics information.

Activity recording can miss observations. Read the figures as recorded activity for the selected period, rather than a guaranteed complete account of traffic or evidence of individual visitor journeys.
